I took a peek. Inside, were a man and a woman who looked to be in their fifties sitting at a table. The woman was very attractive with styled hair and delicate features. Her husband had large hands and a weathered yet handsome face. The interpreter and I sat down at the table. “I want you to know that what the Americans did here has brought great shame to me and my country,” I said, the words coming effortlessly. The interpreter spoke and the woman nodded. For a moment I felt helpless then turned to the interpreter. “Would it be appropriate to give them some money?” I asked.
